What does it mean to be TRULY 10-FREE?
Do you know how “clean” your nail polish actually is? As you probably already know, clean nail polishes are classified by the number of toxic ingredients they are “free” from (3-free, 7-free, 10-free, etc.). With that being said, Huella nail polishes have a TRULY 10-free formula. This means that every Huella polish is free from 10 toxins that are commonly found in regular toxic nail polishes.
One thing that makes Huella different from many of the other 10-free nail polishes on the market is that we do not include Benzophenone-1 in our formula. Instead of cutting this ingredient out of their formula, many other 10-free nail polish brands include the fact that they are vegan on their 10-free list. Here at Huella, we believe that in order to be a TRULY 10-free formula, only toxic ingredients should be included on your 10-free list. That’s why, in addition to being vegan & cruelty-free, we are TRULY 10-free.
Let’s take a look at the 10 toxic ingredients that are NOT included in our nail polish formula...
Benzophenone-1 is a controversial ingredient in the clean beauty industry. While many studies have found it to be harmless, other studies show that it has been linked to breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer. Since there are so many mixed findings with Benzophenone-1, we have decided to stay on the safe side and keep it out of our nail polish formula.
Formaldehyde is a human carcinogenic that is linked to leukemia, brain cancer, and other cancers. It’s used in nail polish to harden and strengthen the polish as well as a preservative to protect against bacterial growth.
Formaldehyde Resin is a by-product of Formaldehyde that is found in products that contain Formaldehyde. It can cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, skin depigmentation and loss of nerve sensation.
Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) is used as a plasticizer in nail polish to minimize chipping. This ingredient is especially dangerous for pregnant women and unborn children since it has been found as a developmental and reproductive toxicant.
Toluene is used in nail polish to create a smooth application and finish. This ingredient can cause neurological damage, impaired breathing, hearing loss, and nausea. High exposure to this chemical over time has also been shown to lead to female reproductive system damage and pregnancy loss.
Camphor is used to give nail polish its glossy, shiny appearance. However, it can trigger severe skin irritation and allergic reactions. Inhaling its fumes can also cause dizziness, nausea, and headache.
Ethyl Tosylamide is used as a plasticizer in nail polish to make it dry faster. However, it also has antibiotic-like properties, which may cause you to build up a resistance to antibiotics.
Xylene gives nail polish its smooth and liquid consistency. This ingredient has carcinogenic properties and has a long list of harmful side effects, some of which include: eye irritation, headaches, nausea, and potential cancer.
Parabens are a common toxin. They are used as a preservative in nail polish and they are able to mimic estrogen in the body, which can cause harmful hormonal imbalances.
Triphenyl Phosphate (TPHP) is used in nail polish to make it more flexible and durable. This ingredient, like many others listed above, has been found as an endocrine disruptor, which means it can negatively affect your hormones.
There you have it! Now you know a little bit more about these 10 common toxic ingredients and the harmful effects they can have on your body. You can feel secure in knowing that none of our nail polishes include any of the ingredients mentioned above. Click here to shop our entire truly 10-free nail polish collection now!
